World War 1 Topics For A Paper

World War 1 Topics For A PaperWorld War I was one of the most destructive conflicts in all of human history. It is often compared to the Civil War in the United States, which is largely considered to be the single most destructive conflict in American history. The most destructive war in United States history has resulted in terrible physical devastation and untold human suffering. No one can really tell how many people were killed during the course of the war, but estimates place the figure much higher than the estimated death toll of WWII. The best estimates place the total number of dead at well over six million. This includes deaths from war itself, soldiers dying in battle, and those who died of disease and starvation during the war itself. The reasons for the World War I were both complex and personal. There were two world wars, and the major reason for the outbreak of WWI was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by an Austro-Hungarian Archduke named Franz Ferdinand. The y were to meet in Sarajevo, but on that day Franz Ferdinand was shot by a Serbian who did not know he was not a diplomat or an Archduke. The assassination became a catalyst for war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. Within weeks, war had broken out between Germany and Russia, which became known as the First World War. The deaths of two million and three million men from all sides in the first few months alone are some of the most high profile and well-documented figures in human history. The events of the first World War ended the European age of empires, which many believed to be a golden age.Historians agree that the first World War was the largest and most destructive war in human history, and the second one continues to be the deadliest. Of the nine million people who died during the first World War, a quarter of a million were children under the age of eighteen. While there are no exact figures on the number of children who died in the first World War, a count shows that over h alf a million died from disease alone. Entire countries were erased from the map, in part due to disease and starvation. The things we have taken for granted, such as ice cream, went from being a luxury of the rich to something that only the poor could afford. Some of the most powerful statements about the horrors of war come from the stories of the soldiers themselves. Often they will be quoted telling their stories of the war. In one of the most heartbreaking statements about the horrors of war, a nineteen-year-old Private Dick Wooster said:'Remember, you are only a tool in the hands of God, and he never makes a mistake. His designs are absolutely perfect, and if any of us makes a mistake it is yours to pay for. He is the only source of authority for you. It is he who makes a man fight, and you are his instrument.'
